Data Care
Last updated: January 2026
JP Atmos collects very little data, and what we do collect, we treat with care. This page explains what information we gather when you use our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over your own information. We believe that privacy is not a feature to be marketed but a basic respect that should be built into how every organization operates. We have tried to write this page in plain language that a normal person can understand, because we think legal documents should be readable.
What We Collect
When you browse our website, we don't ask you to create an account or log in. You can read every essay on this site without telling us who you are. However, like almost every website on the internet, we do collect some basic technical information automatically. Your browser sends us your IP address, which tells us roughly where in the world you're connecting from. It also tells us what kind of device and browser you're using, what page you visited, and how long you stayed. This information is standard web server logging, and we use it only to understand how people find and use our site.
If you choose to contact us through our contact form, we collect the name and email address that you provide, along with whatever message you write. We use this information only to respond to your message. We don't add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly ask us to, and we don't share your contact details with anyone outside our team.
Cookies
We use cookies to understand which essays resonate with our readers. This is anonymized data, meaning we can't trace it back to any individual person. We look at patterns, such as which essays people finish reading versus which ones they leave partway through, because this helps us understand what our readers value and what we should write more of. We don't use cookies to track you across the internet or to build a profile of your interests. We don't use cookies to show you advertisements, because we don't have any advertisements on our site.
When you first visit our site, you'll see a small banner at the bottom of the page asking whether you consent to these reading cookies. You can decline, and the site will work perfectly fine without them. You can also change your mind at any time by visiting our Cookie Box page.
Who We Share Data With
We don't sell your data. We don't trade your data. We don't give your data away in exchange for services. The only third party that might process your data is our hosting company, which stores our website files on their servers and handles the technical delivery of our pages to your browser. Our hosting company has its own privacy policy, and we have chosen a provider that maintains reasonable security practices. Beyond this necessary relationship, your data stays with us.
How Long We Keep Data
We keep contact form submissions for as long as we need them to respond to your message and follow up if necessary. We periodically delete old server logs to free up space, typically after twelve months. We don't maintain long-term archives of visitor data because we don't need them for our work.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights regarding your personal data. These can include the right to access what information we hold about you, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to request deletion of your data, and the right to object to certain types of processing. If you want to exercise any of these rights, or if you just want to know what information we have about you, send us an email at write@jpatmos.com and we'll respond as quickly as we can.
Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect the data we hold. Our website uses encryption to protect data in transit, and we choose service providers who maintain appropriate security measures. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur. If we ever become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as soon as possible.
Children's Privacy
JP Atmos is not directed at children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete that information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this data care page from time to time as our practices evolve or as legal requirements change. If we make significant changes, we will note the updated date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back periodically if you want to stay informed about how we handle data.
Contact
If you have any questions about this policy, or if you want to know what data we have about you, or if you want us to delete your data, please write to us at write@jpatmos.com. We're a small team, and we read every message. You can also reach us by mail at JP Atmos LLC, 10 Main St, Montpelier, VT 05602, USA.
